Mother Superior of the Sharran cloister in the House of Grief. Cleric with Spirit Guardians, Inflict Wounds, and a full party of Sharran zealots. Block her concentration to drop Spirit Guardians.

Viconia DeVir — House of Grief

Location: Cloister of Sombre Embrace, House of Grief (Lower City). Shadowheart’s personal quest conclusion.


Pre-Fight Checklist

  1. Long rest before entering the Cloister.
  2. Heroes’ Feast + Aid — HP buffs.
  3. Bring Counterspell — multiple Sharran casters.
  4. Bring multi-hit attacks — Viconia’s Spirit Guardians concentration needs to be broken. Magic Missile is perfect (multiple concentration checks).
  5. Bring Radiant damage — Sharrans aren’t undead but Radiant is generally strong here.
  6. Elixir of Vigilance on everyone.

Boss Mechanics

Viconia DeVirLevel 12 Cleric of Shar, ~250 HP. Spirit Guardians (Radiant — actually Necrotic in Sharran form), Inflict Wounds, Divine Strike, Healing Word.
8-10 Sharran ZealotsMixed fighters, rogues, and casters. Smites, Sneak Attacks, Darkness spam. They’re cultists — low HP but many of them.
DarknessMultiple Sharrans cast Darkness. Everyone inside is Blinded. Eversight Ring and Devil’s Sight (Warlock) see through it.
SanctuaryViconia can cast Sanctuary on herself. AoE spells ignore Sanctuary.

Strategy

Kill Order

  1. Sharran casters FIRST. They cast Hold Person, Silence, and Darkness. One caster can lock down your entire backline. Burst them immediately.
  2. Sharran rogues second. They Sneak Attack squishies. Trip Attack or Enraged Throw to prone them.
  3. Viconia last. She’s tanky but without her zealots, she falls fast.

Tactics

Break Spirit GuardiansViconia’s Spirit Guardians deals Necrotic damage to everyone near her. Break her concentration: Magic Missile (3+ concentration checks in one cast). Moonbeam, Scorching Ray, and multiple weapon attacks also work.
AoE the cultistsThey’re clumped up in the chapel. Fireball + Lightning Bolt + Spirit Guardians (Radiant from Shadowheart) clears half of them in one round.
Darkness counterWear Eversight Ring (immune to Blinded, see in darkness). Or just AoE the darkness area — you don’t need to see them to Fireball them.
CounterspellPriority: Hold Person > Silence > Darkness > anything else. Two sorcs covering Counterspell is enough.

Storm SorcLightning Bolt through the cultist clump (they line up nicely in the chapel). Magic Missile Viconia to drop Spirit Guardians (3 darts = 3 concentration checks). Counterspell Hold Person.
Wild Magic SorcFireball the clump. Careful Spell to exclude allies. Disintegrate on Viconia once her adds are dead.
ShadowheartSpirit Guardians (Radiant) — walk through the Sharrans. Thematic payback. Bless on Lae’zel + Bardadin.
BardadinSlashing Flourish the cultist clumps. Hypnotic Pattern (via Band of Mystic Scoundrel) to CC half the room.
Lae’zelTrip Attack rogues. GWM nova on Viconia. Disarming Attack on any melee cultists.
ThrowzerkerEnraged Throw on Viconia → auto-prone. Throw cultists into each other.
AstarionSnipe casters from range. Sneak Attack the priority targets.

Honour Mode Specifics

  • Spirit Guardians is more dangerous in Honour Mode (Necrotic instead of Radiant, higher damage). Break Viconia’s concentration in round 1 or spread out.
  • Darkness spam can blind your entire party. Without Eversight Ring, you’re fighting blind. Pre-position outside the Darkness radius before combat.
  • Hold Person from Sharrans can kill a character in one round (paralysis → auto-crits from rogues). Counterspell it or kill casters first.
  • Shadowheart’s story decision: after the fight, choose whether Shadowheart forgives or confronts her past. This affects her epilogue.
  • Mirror of Loss is after this fight — don’t forget to use it on every party member before leaving (see Act 3 vendor page for details).

Post-Fight

  • Loot Viconia: Viconia’s Walking Fortress (legendary shield, advantage on spell saves, Bulwark Rebuke, Reflective Shell).
  • Access the Mirror of Loss — permanent +2 to any stat per character. The most impactful bonus in Act 3.
  • Shadowheart’s personal quest concludes.
